Hello ANSSers! As the new liaison to the American Sociological Association, I attended the recent ASA Annual Meeting in Seattle Washington from August 20-23, 2016. Look for a full report on the meeting and my liaison activities in the upcoming issues of the ANSS Currents newsletter. In the meantime, here’s a brief summary of some of my conference highlights:
- Meeting with past ACRL-ASA liaison, Sally Willson Weimer
- Attending the Section on Teaching and Learning business meeting
- Promoting the ANSS Instruction and Information Literacy project to create a disciplinary companion document to the Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education
- Chatting with open access advocates at the SocArXiv launch party
- Learning about best practices for the creation of reproducible social science
- Listening to speakers in a session about digital knowledge production talk about the creation and use of big data and algorithms in HIV/AIDS surveys, law enforcement, the courts, and online news.
- Hearing from activists in the Black Lives Matter movement
