Claytee D. White is the inaugural director of the Oral History Research Center for the University of Nevada Las Vegas Libraries. She collects the history of Las Vegas and the surrounding area by gathering memories of events and experiences from longtime residents. Her projects include early health care in the city, history of the John S. Park Neighborhood, The Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project, and a study of musicians who played with some of the greats in the entertainment field.
As one of five founders of the Las Vegas Black Historical Society Inc., she chronicles the history of the Las Vegas black community since 1905. Her published writings on the subject include a book chapter, encyclopedia entries, and several articles.
White received her bachelor’s degree from California State University Los Angeles, master’s degree in history from UNLV, and has completed work toward a doctorate at the College of William & Mary. She serves on the Historic Preservation Commission for the city of Las Vegas, Nevada Humanities executive board, and is past president of the Southwest Oral History Association.
Born in Arkansas, Hannah Brown moved to Las Vegas with her mother at the age of 6. At age fifteen she was employed as a Sales Associate by Larry’s Music Bar, which later became Larry Wilburn’s Sight and Sound Center. As a young adult, she became manager of the store and remained in that position until accepting employment with Western Airlines in 1968.
After Delta Air Lines purchased Western in 1987, she received several managerial promotions including a position of Regional Manager/Director with Delta Air Lines in Atlanta, GA. In 1994, she returned to Las Vegas with Delta Airlines, and began her active work in the community. In 1999, she was elected President of the Urban Chamber of Commerce and under her leadership secured $2.2million dollars to build a incubator/multi purpose business center and permanent home for the Chamber. During her tenure, the three chambers (Asian, Latin and Urban) hosted joint luncheons with hundreds from the Las Vegas business community in attendance.
In September of 2007, the UCC board of directors named Hannah President Emeritus in recognition of ten years of service as a board member and eight years as president. She is former President of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Las Vegas Chapter, and an active volunteer for many causes throughout Southern Nevada.
Jarmilla McMillan-Arnold is a retired State of Nevada employee for the Division of Industrial Relations Workers Compensation Section, as a Compensation Section, as a Compliance Audit Investigator.
Ms. Arnold is the only daughter of; Dr James B. McMillan First Black Dentist in the State of Nevada, Civil Rights Activists, past NAACP President, Dr McMillan spearheaded the desegregation initiate of the State. Jarmilla is actively involved in the community, serving on the Citizens Review Board for the City of Las Vegas, The West Las Vegas Advisory Board (Historic Westside), the Historic Westside School Coordination-Team City of Las Vegas for restoration of the school. Jarmilla is an officer on her Homeowners Board, and serves as a Commissioner for the City of Las Vegas, Historic Preservation Commission. Jarmilla is the proud mother of a daughter and grandmother of Tyra and Tayla.
Patrick Griffis is currently serving as the Business Librarian for the University Libraries, at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. In his position of Business Librarian, he serves as the liaison librarian to UNLV’s Lee College of Business and provides outreach services to the business community in Southern Nevada. Mr. Griffis holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Southern California and a MLIS from the University of North Texas.

Lora received her Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas with a concentration in New Venture.
